Space Needle

Sunday we drove the car downtown for the Underground Tour and other sightseeing but on Monday we decided to try out the public transportation system. A Metro bus stops in front of the campground and we hopped on to travel over to the Sea-Tac Airport for a whopping senior price of one dollar each. At Sea-Tac we boarded the Light Rail for downtown Seattle. A roundtrip senior ticket was two dollars. Once downtown we got off at the Westlake Station about one block from the Nordstrom building. Nordstrom started in Seattle as a shoe store and the corporate headquarters is still here. The Space Needle was built as part of the 1962 World's Fair and at the same time a monorail was built  running between the downtown retail area and the Space Needle. The monorail is boarded from a platform in Nordstrom for a ride over to Seattle Center and the Space Needle.

Getting off the monorail - why are they looking up?

This is what they see

We went over to get something to eat and I could not help but take a picture of a guy in line at Starbucks all decked out in pink pastel.

Downstairs there was some ceramic artwork on the wall from the 1962 Worlds Fair.

Notice the Space Needle in the ceramic artwork

We have been to many attractions where they take your picture when you enter. This was the first one we have been to where the photo was free. They scan your ticket and there is a website where the photo can be downloaded.
