Salt Lake City here we come

So I thought we were done with time changes for awhile but that was a false assumption. Nevada is on Pacific Daylight time and Arizona is on Mountain Standard Time, making the time the same in both states. I neglected to check Utah and shortly after leaving Mesquite Nevada we were back on Mountain Daylight time.

Yesterday as soon as the sun started to rise over the mountains we were preparing to leave for Salt Lake City. Believe it or not, I was wearing a wind breaker while walking the dog and breaking camp. Temp was about 60 compared to over a 100 the previous afternoon. As the sun climbed above the mountains it was shinning with a vengeance and sunglasses were required. The sky out here in the west does little to filter the sun and it shines very bright. We were anxious to head north to a higher altitude before the day heated up.

We hit the road about 6:30 am local time and the temp was already rising. The sun proved to be a problem for the next 100 miles as it was low in the sky and our course on I-15 was in a northeast direction more than half of the time. Relief came
Rest stop that delighted Bo

when the road turned due north but often it would turn back to a northeast direction. Soon after entering Utah the land started to change as we gained altitude and before long there were trees and grass. We stopped at a rest stop to give Bo a chance to sniff the grass and do his chores. He seemed very pleased to find ground cover other than asphalt and pea gravel.

Salt Lake City is at an altitude of 4200 feet and located below a mountain range. It is cooler but a near record high of 87 is forecast for today. We will welcome that as it beats the heck out of the 105 forecast for Mesquite. I am writing this with a view of snow capped mountains out of the motorhome window. We will be taking a tour of the downtown area today.
