San Antonio

We spent Saturday in downtown San Antonio and visited the Alamo and walked the Riverwalk. There are many restaurants on the Riverwalk and we chose to eat at the County Line and ordered the barbeque brisket. An outstanding meal and we would not hesitate to repeat the experience. What impressed us the most about San Antonio was how nice all the people were. We rode the city bus from the campground to the downtown area and the bus driver went out of his way to be helpful. It turned out that the weekend of our visit was the yearly celebration of the founding of San Antonio and it was Fiesta week. Today would be the annual parade thru the downtown area. After the Riverwalk we purchased tickets for a bus tour of the city and then heard that streets were being blocked off and that would prevent us from catching the bus back to the campground. I approached the owner of the tour bus company and asked for a refund so we could catch the last bus back. He said that was not necessary and made arrangements to have one of his smaller buses take us back to the campground after the tour.

The Alamo

When we are traveling we often find a local Baptist church to attend on Sunday. This Sunday we chose the Trinity Baptist Church of San Antonio. This was a friendly church with an impressive interior that included a stain glass backdrop behind the choir. In conversation with the pastor we discovered his first church after seminary was the First Baptist Church of Knoxville. Some photos of the interior of Trinity Baptist can be viewed at this link.
