Waterfront

Moving down to the waterfront from Pioneer Square one finds one of the ferry terminals. The ferry system is operated by the Washington State Ferry System and they obviously have this mode of transportation mastered. We watched them unload and then load one of the larger ferries that holds about 144 cars. We started a video when they began unloading the ferry and it took approximately 10 minutes to unload. Next they loaded the ferry in about the same amount of time. The biggest problem was getting the cars out onto Alaskan Way, the street in front of the terminal.

In the photo below the Alaskan Way is the street at the ground level with the southbound lanes next to the terminal. The northbound lanes are under the Alaskan Way Viaduct that carries two directions of Highway 99.

Once we tired of watching the ferry we went next door to Ivar's Fish Bar and eat. It was my birthday and Pam had called and made a reservation. I was glad they did not sing Happy Birthday. We both had the Alaskan Cod but Pam ordered the clam chowder for her side instead of the caesar salad I had. I sampled her clam chowder and new the salad was a mistake. Ivar's is famous for their clam chowder and rightly so.
